![]() ![]() One of Kipling’s major innovations is making Kim, though Irish and therefore a ‘sahib’, more like the Indians he lives among than like an Irish or British boy. ![]() ![]() ‘ Kim is many things’, writes Fred Lerner: ‘a spy story, a quest novel, a Bildungsroman, but above all, it is a love letter to India, a celebration of the sounds and smells and colours of the subcontinent.’ Kim is also an imperialist adventure tale with a boy-hero, akin to the novels of G. He is delighted by almost all aspects of India as well as by his own escapades: 'It was all pure delight. Kipling's ideal boy is 'Friend of all the World'. These surrogate fathers are sure that Kim is the very person they need, either to play the Great Game or, in the case of the Lama, to help find the sacred River of the Arrow. This book is for all lovers of Kim, the masterpiece with which Rudyard Kipling celebrated the life of the Indian subcontinent, the imperial and English. An epic rendition of the imperial experience in India, and perhaps his greatest long work, the Penguin Classics edition of Rudyard Kiplings Kim. ![]() The Irish orphan travels among all sorts of Indians with enviable freedom and street smarts while watched over by a diversity of caring father figures: the Teshoo Lama, Mahbub Ali, Lurgan Sahib, Hurree Chunder Mookerjee, Col. But in his most successful novel, he wrote about a boy whose enjoyment of 'happy Asiatic disorder' matched his own. 'Kim dived into the happy Asiatic disorder which, if you only allow time, will bring you everything that a simple man needs.' Rudyard Kipling was far from being a 'simple man'. ![]()

Ryan’s backstory was unnecessary yet it sounded captivating and made Danni suspect him.īook 2: Sailing into Trouble didn’t take long to dive into someone died at the boat party-the mystery man Kelton is dead. This is a personal opinion, and unsure if there was even a funeral scene in this quick read. Overall the series or books are a mystery of who-done-it and usually is someone not mentioned or less likely would think is the killer.īook 1: Running into Trouble was a quick read and would have liked to see more compassion about losing a close friend that you have lived with and shared grade school to college goals. ![]() This lets me know that Danni still acts like a teenager although she is a junior to senior in college through the complete series (Books 1-3). (I see how this would work if you read the novels not in sequence with the key points repeated). The writing is simple, sometimes repetitive with the character development or Danni’s insight about certain characters like the cop Chris, friendship with Ryan since seventh grade (mentioned in most of the books), and uses words like “super cute” or “super cool” which is a bit humorous to me. Danni Girl Mysteries is an easy, fast paced, cozy mystery read for Young Adults however, the characters would make this novel fall under New Adult. ![]() ![]() ![]() Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, Megan currently resides in St. ![]() ![]() She enjoys learning new techniques to provide the most effective and holistic healing for others.
